A race for the ages has begun in search of the next “Big Thing” in the realm of entertainment. For the most part, Artificial Intelligence has taken over the Wave entertainment. Artificial Intelligence has taken over almost every aspect of how we live life today. The way we dress, market, research, and navigate through life can be attributed to A. I in some form, shape, or fashion. Human society has been overtaken by an industrial revolution, impacting social, economic, and the way we perceive and intake information.
Lamont Bracy, known in the recording industry under his pseudonym “Renzo” has been on a crusade to educate and forewarn entertainment executives of the cultural switch being powered by A.I. “The median where organic human creativity and Artificial Intelligence are no longer equal”. “A.I. will soon become the teacher, and we will have no choice but to become the student”, states Lamont Renzo Bracy. “What’s even scarier, is the notion that we as humans can no longer compete.”
“What happened to creative integrity?” A good question that has become harder to answer as of late. The introduction of A.I. has sent transformed the process of human creation into a plug and play element that can be performed by anyone with a computer. The once trained input in the process of producing artificial music has now created an output which requires no or little human interaction. The integrity of creativity is at stake! The integrity of craftsmanship, authenticity, and originality are ambiguities that are more often infringed when it comes to the intellectual properties of entities and recording artists. Some professionals in the industry worries carry further than sound recordings, the introduction of holograms and digitalized artworks pose a dangerous state of affairs that has many taking a strong stand on one side of the others due to the long-term implications.
When I’m at conventions and music conferences across the country, the sentiments shared are those of eschewing away from the topic. One thing for certain, if they’re involved in a said project, they would like to do so anonymously. As a matter of fact, using A.I. generated monograms or digitalized artworks in live performances are viewed as the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers bubble Championship during Covid-19, non-valid! The integration of AI in the entertainment industry has changed the narrative of the creative process. Human creativity is on a crash course with AI ingenuity, and it appears that the creators have a slight edge, but artificial intelligence is narrowing the gap and by all indicators will be leading the industry by 2030.
Well ladies and gentlemen, it’s too late to put the genie back in the bottle. Artificial Intelligence and its significance in music is here to stay. The Recording Academy announced the acceptance of the artform and recognizes music made with AI; however, for the piece of work to be nominated, there are special requirements that must be met. The symbiotic relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity must learn to coincide within the artform. Of course, apprehension and skepticism regarding artificial intelligence will only grow as technology continues to impose its presence in our everyday culture. Should music professionals be concerned on the direction of music creation? The short answer is no; however, I do foresee major issues soon. Is artificial intelligence a valid threat? One may argue that AI levels the playing field, but to take that stance, one would also have to agree that taking short cuts is permissible. I don’t know, who am I? What are your thoughts on artificial intelligence in the music industry?
