Microsoft scored a big win on the AI front, with the Swedish government approving Copilot for continued use, while blocking Claude and ChatGPT.
Governments are still struggling to use AI securely and ensure that sensitive information remains private. According to TechRepublic, citing Sveriges Radio, the Swedish Government Offices blocked browser access to Anthropic Claude and OpenAI ChatGPT on staff computers on October 26.
Interestingly, this is not an all-out ban on AI within the Government Offices. Officials actually want employees to use AI services the Government Offices has approved, but warn that using a service the government does not have an existing agreement with could have “consequences for our information security.”
Microsoft Copilot remains approved after a government review, with additional security measures introduced following the assessment, although officials have not disclosed the specific changes.
