Bluesky Rides Midterm Blue Wave to Its Highest Engagement of the Year

Bluesky had a good Election Day, with the social media platform riding the Democrats’ blue wave to its highest engagement of the year.

Bluesky CEO Toni Schneider posted the news:

It’s been pretty incredible to watch the response to the midterm elections on Bluesky. Posts and likes doubled yesterday, and we’re seeing a wave of new people joining and old friends coming back.

It turns out that when one algorithm decides what’s pushed to everyone, it shapes what people think is happening. That’s why Bluesky lets you choose your own feeds, and why no single company should control what millions of people see. Including us.

Big credit to you, the people who made Bluesky what it is. You built the communities and made this a place where people want to be.

To everyone who’s been here, thank you. To everyone just arriving or finding your way back, welcome. The internet is better when it belongs to the people using it.

X (then Twitter) gained popularity much the same way, with people using the platform to keep up with current events. The fact that Bluesky saw such a surge on Election Day is a good sign for the platform’s future growth and adoption.
