Verizon to Charge $10 Monthly for Apple iPhone Handoff Feature

Verizon plans to charge customers $10 a month for Apple’s iPhone Handoff feature. The carrier disclosed the fee Friday in an announcement tied to preorders for its new iPhone Duo device.

iPhone Handoff, introduced in iOS 27, lets users share one phone number across two compatible iPhones. Only one device can use the number at a time, and customers can switch which phone is active whenever they like.

The MacRumors report on the pricing drew directly from Verizon’s own post. “Verizon will support iPhone Handoff, giving customers the flexibility to use a single Verizon phone number seamlessly across two compatible iPhone models,” the carrier stated. “Whether using the pocketable iPhone Duo on the go or iPhone 18 Pro for work, customers can switch active status between devices at any time while keeping full access to Verizon’s 5G network.”

Verizon says support is “coming soon” but gave no launch date. Apple had previously said Verizon would add the feature before the end of the year.

The fee adds a recurring cost for anyone who wants to run the same number on two iPhones. It applies on top of normal service charges. Over 12 months the handoff fee alone reaches $120 before taxes.

T-Mobile already offers the feature for $5 a month, so Verizon will charge twice as much for the same capability. In Germany, Deutsche Telekom charges €6.95 a month but includes it free on its MagentaMobil L and XL plans.

AT&T, the third major U.S. carrier, recently suggested it has no imminent plans to support iPhone Handoff. That leaves Verizon and T-Mobile as the U.S. options for now.

For a customer weighing a second iPhone, Verizon’s price works out to an extra $60 a year compared with T-Mobile, on top of whatever the second device costs to buy or finance.

The feature requires iOS 27 and compatible models. Verizon named the iPhone Duo and the iPhone 18 Pro models.

Preorders for the iPhone Duo opened October 16, and the device reaches stores October 23. Handoff support on Verizon remains on a separate timeline.

Verizon has not said whether any plans or promotions will waive the fee. In the U.K., EE said it will include iPhone Handoff free on its Full Works Plus plan and charge other customers £5 a month.
