The new qualification pathway begins with a confidential health survey or medical questionnaire completed through Truemed. An independent licensed clinician reviews the client’s information and determines whether the requested therapeutic massage services are medically appropriate for the client’s specific health circumstances.
Clients who qualify may receive a Letter of Medical Necessity. This documentation may support the use of HSA or FSA funds for qualifying therapeutic massage services. Qualification is not guaranteed, and each client’s eligibility is determined individually. The client’s HSA or FSA plan administrator retains final authority over payment or reimbursement decisions.
Massage therapy is not automatically considered an eligible HSA or FSA expense. Services intended solely for general relaxation or general wellness may not qualify. Eligibility generally depends on whether the service is medically necessary for the diagnosis, treatment, mitigation or prevention of a specific health condition and is supported by appropriate documentation.
For clients managing qualifying health concerns, regular therapeutic massage can represent an important ongoing expense. Somatic introduced the Truemed pathway to help clients better understand whether pre-tax health funds may be available for appropriate therapeutic services rather than assuming that massage is always excluded.
Somatic Massage Therapy & Spa offers therapeutic massage, clinical massage, deep-tissue massage, lymphatic services, prenatal massage, assisted stretching and other individualized massage services.
