Pneumeric, Inc., Manufacturers of the CAPNOSPOT™ Medical Device, Announce Nearly $40,000 Raised from Its Equity Crowdfunding Campaign

Rochester, MN – February 10, 2023 – Pneumeric Inc., developers of the Capnospot – A disposable medical device that allows visual detection of carbon dioxide during treatment of a collapsed lung with needle decompression, has raised nearly $40,000 from 124 investors through its recently launched equity crowdfunding campaign.

These funds build on the $1.2 million Pneumeric has already raised from angel groups and medical professionals.

A third of preventable trauma deaths result from a collapsed lung (otherwise known as a tension pneumothorax) brought about by blunt trauma. During needle decompression, medical professionals confirm the procedure’s success by listening for an audible “gush” of carbon dioxide from the chest cavity — a procedure that can be prone to human error in stressful and noisy environments. Pneumeric’s Capnospot changes the diagnostic procedure from audible to visual by detecting carbon dioxide that changes colorimetric paper from blue to yellow.

“When we were doing needle decompressions in the trauma bay, we realized we were basically guessing if we had done the procedure correctly,” says CEO and Chief Medical Officer Johnathon Aho, MD, Ph.D. “We knew we could make a simple, inexpensive device to supply first responders and trauma casualty caregivers with rapid visual feedback that would save lives.”

Capnospot is designed to be intuitive to the end user and inexpensive to manufacture, and the technology is protected through a licensed-patent agreement with Mayo Clinic. Further, the global emergency medical services (EMS) market is expected to grow to $34.3 billion by 2027, and venture capital financings into the healthcare devices and supplies industry include investments of $129.85 billion across 28,879 deals from 2011 to 2021.
